I’ve been racing since 1983. I saved my lunch money from school and some other odd jobs then went to the hobby shop every Friday and bought a new parts bag for a Tamiya Frog. I built my first car buying each part individually. I wonder how much it actually cost? My dad told me if I could get a car he would buy me a radio. I started racing carpet oval in 1983 with my Frog on foam tires and a Kyosho Lemans 240ST and a Bill Elliot Thunderbird body. It had a complete Thorpe gearbox diff and axles! It evolved into a Hot Trick Red Prince (RC 10 front end fiberglass chassis and Frog rear end) before I finally got an Associated RC 10 gold pan.

Have fun and help out the new guys. Lead them into making good choices, so they don’t
have to buy something twice.
I hate to see new guys waste their money on stuff they don’t need and then get discouraged
and leave the hobby.

My favorite joke:
One morning this blonde calls her friend and says "Please come over and help me.  I bought this
killer jigsaw puzzle, but I can't figure out how to start it."
Her friend asks, "What is it a puzzle of?" The blonde says, "From the picture on the box, it's a tiger."
The blonde's friend figures that he's pretty good at puzzles, so he heads over to help her out.  The blonde
has the puzzle spread out all over the table.  He studies the pieces for a moment, and then studies the box.
He then says, "First, no matter what I do, I cannot show you how to assemble these to look like
that picture of a tiger."
"Second, I'd advise you to relax, have a cup of coffee, and put all these Frosted Flakes back in the box."
